History

The Butterflies

The butterflies, like all flying animals, evoke the total freedom the men always dreamed about, since Icarus. This freedom of moving illustrates the social object of the company. Moreover, the butterflies symbolize the beauty and the brittleness of nature, in which operates the company. In fact they are part of the first category of fauna to disappear under the effect of pollution related to intensive agriculture.

This butterfly of St-James is not any butterfly. It is a Large Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis Polychloros), a rare species of butterfly in our surroundings, whose one specimen accompanied me on about hundred meters on Thursday 17 March 2005 at the exit of Hièrges, first French village on the road towards St James of Compostela. The Large Tortoiseshell should not be confused with the Small Tortoiseshell (Aglais Urticae) which is an extremely widespread species in our areas, and which is different from the Large Tortoiseshell by a smaller size, an orange colour drawing more towards the red, a collection of more marked mini blue ossicles on the edge of the wings, and especially the absence in the middle of the forewings of the 4th black spot.
